Earl Sweatshirt is a rapper who for most of his career has been known for his ominous and almost misunderstood character. When a director is tasked or inspired to make a film they have to tap into the world they are trying to portray, this is very similar in music production as well. In Earl's music specifically he raps about his feelings and his outlook on life.

Earl compared his music to him being the driver in the car and the listener is the passenger. Earl being the writer is what makes him the driver, he is in control of the feelings and emotions being delivered and the passenger is along for that ride. As the passenger we may not know where it is going at all times but there is a destination. In films directors do the same thing. They lead us down a path that tells a story and we sometimes don't know the point of everything until the conclusion.
